Raw rings made of raw paste in kitchen

Did you know that last Friday was National Donut Day? Created by the Salvation Army in 1938, National Donut Day officially honors the women who served donuts to soldiers during WWI.

Since then it has morphed into a day filled with donut retailers around the nation giving away free donuts to very happy customers.

I understand the appeal of a soft and warm right out of the oven donut. But what I have trouble digesting is that today’s interpretation of this national holiday promotes the consumption of refined sugar, the growth of our waistlines and the deterioration of our health.

Let’s celebrate! But instead of succumbing to the sugar-madness that will leave you feeling heavy and craving more, make your very own batch of good-for-you and still deliciously yummy donuts.

Speaking of yummy donuts, I have a treat for you this week lovingly created by my nine year old, Nadia. Try Nadia’s recipe for Delicious Donut Holes. They’re kid-friendly and nutrition mom approved!
